PETALING JAYA: India’s reigning women’s singles world champion P.V. Sindhu has withdrawn from the Denmark Open but Saina Nehwal aims to make her presence felt in Odense from Oct 13-18.
According to The Times of India, Sindhu has had a change of heart after the postponement of the Thomas-Uber Cup Finals. Initially, Sindhu decided against going to the Finals but agreed to join the team after being persuaded by the Badminton Association of India.
“I’ve pulled out of the Denmark Open. Since the Uber Cup Finals are a team event, I wanted to represent my country. Now that it’s postponed, there is no point going to Denmark, ” said Sindhu.
“If I play that tournament, I have to be in home quarantine for 14 days on return to India. Moreover, I am planning to compete in the three Asian tournaments.”
