‘Turn Up The Pink’ event raised $2,600 over the weekend in support of Breast Cancer Awareness
Bradford’s Breathe Hot Yoga & Wellness Studio on Holland Street West hosted a fundraiser this week, ‘Turn Up The Pink’, in support of breast cancer awareness.
The fundraiser began on Sept. 24, with donations being collected online for the cause. There was also an online silent auction with items such as yoga mats, water bottles, and gift baskets, as well as a variety of gift certificates from local businesses like F45, Harvey’s, Victoria Bourque Beauty Boutique, Purple Lotus, Mother Mary Soap Co., and Emma’s Sweets.
The silent auction surpassed their $500 fundraising goal by 200 percent, for a total of $950.
On Friday, Breathe offered free meditation sessions and refreshments for yogis, compliments of Sweet B’s bakery and Mmm Donuts. There were also guest speakers, including a nurse who taught the women in attendance how to do a proper self breast exam.
On Saturday, the studio offered yoga classes throughout the day with proceeds going toward the cause. The yoga instructors guided the classes free of charge on both days.
“Altogether we raised around $2,600,” shared Rosie White, owner of Bradford’s Breathe Hot Yoga & Wellness Studio. “I’m very grateful for all the community support! It was an absolute success!”
Extra donations poured in from many local businesses including a generous donation of $500 from the Bradford Fire Department.
“Everyone was really generous and amazing to work with,” notes White.
White herself had her own bought with breast cancer earlier this year, and is an advocate for breast cancer awareness.
All proceeds raised over the weekend will be split between to the Canadian Cancer Society and Dragonfly Wellness Healing Centre, an organization for women with breast cancer that need a retreat to get away, connect, and heal.
“Everyone was really happy with the event,” expressed White, adding that this was her first time organizing the event. “We will definitely be doing the another one again next year”.
