A spot of yoga to start your day and you’ll be laughing. No better way to fight the Sunday scaries than with some fresh air… pancakes being the only other exception.
Like most other people, I had great intentions during quarantine, promising myself that I’d do yoga not once, but TWICE a day. A little overambitious on my part… probably should have started off with a more achievable goal, say yoga once a month maybe.
Setting the bar too high was a rookie mistake on my part and needless to say, I did not follow through on the twice-daily malarkey. To be honest, most days I was lucky if I made it out of my pyjamas. But while I didn’t manage to stick to my resolutions (surprise surprise), I do actually really enjoy yoga and anytime I did manage to roll out my mat and fit in a short flow I realised just how good for the mind, body and soul it is. Committing to even just 10 minutes is a great way to tune out the rest of the noise and focus on the here and now – something that many of us could probably benefit from doing more often.
Having a quick stretch in your living room is one thing, grabbing your gear and doing a yoga class in a secluded woodland area, surrounded by nature is quite another and I think you all know which one has my vote. Anyone who finds themselves in Galway this weekend can give it a go for us and report back as there’s such a class happening there this very Sunday.
Hosted by Yoga Stretch Galway, the class can only accommodate 15 yogis so make sure to get your ticket ASAP if you’re interested. Taking place in the heart of Merlin Woods, the woodland yoga class incorporates gentle yoga, a mindful walk and some meditation. Open to all levels and experiences, the aim is to ‘re-connect with nature and to promote healthy activities out in the fresh air’.
A guaranteed way to clear the cobwebs away.
