Syracuse basketball is showing interest in 2022 four-star small forward Tyrell Ward from DeMatha Catholic.

Tyrell Ward, a top-30 small forward and top-five prospect in the state of Maryland within the 2022 cycle, is receiving interest from Syracuse basketball, according to a report.

Eric Bossi, national basketball director for 247Sports, recently published a piece on the 6-foot-5, 175-pound Ward, a four-star prospect who attends the legendary DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Md.

To date, the junior wing has several high-major offers, which we will detail in a moment. As it pertains to the Orange, Ward has visited the ‘Cuse unofficially, and Syracuse basketball is watching him “closely,” writes Bossi.

Per a review of the primary recruiting services, Ward has received offers so far from St. John’s, Seton Hall, fellow Atlantic Coast Conference squad Wake Forest, George Mason, former Big East Conference rival Georgetown, Southeastern Louisiana, Georgia, LSU and Providence.

Syracuse basketball is taking a look at 2022 four-star small forward Tyrell Ward, who plays high-school ball in Maryland.

Nationally across the 2022 class, Prep Hoops presently slots Ward at No. 98. The 247Sports recruiting service has him at No. 112 overall, No. 27 at small forward and No. 3 in Maryland.

Finally, the 247Sports Composite arranges Ward at No. 118 across the country in his cycle, along with No. 27 at small forward and No. 4 in Maryland.

Check out some of what Ward had to say to Bossi in their recent interview. “I feel like I’m a very underrated playmaker and my intensity on the defensive end, I don’t think anybody plays as hard as me. I’m working on my ability to play on the ball more. In college there are a lot of guys that are like 6-foot-5 or 6-foot-6 that can play like point guards and I feel I could adjust to that role if I keep working.”

Ward added, “I really wanted to make it a focus to get a lot stronger this summer. When quarantine first started I weighed like 165 and I just weighed myself yesterday and I’m up to 178. I’ve added a lot of muscle and haven’t let the quarantine affect me and I’ve kept my body in basketball shape.”

Syracuse basketball, as we recently penned a column on, is also displaying interest in Ward’s DeMatha Catholic teammate, 2023 four-star shooting guard Jacoi Hutchinson.

Hutchinson, a sophomore, is ranked No. 20 nationally in the 2023 class, No. 3 at shooting guard and No. 2 in Maryland, according to 247Sports.
