Siva Subramanian repeats father’s feat, seals fourth online district crown | Chess News – Times of India

NAGPUR: A week after 59-year-old Ramachandran V won the first title of his life, R Siva Subramanian repeated father’s feat by emerging champion in the Prabhakarrao Karkar memorial fourth online rapid chess tournament on Sunday.
In the 15th online meet, organized by Nagpur District Chess Association (NDCA) since lockdown, Siva sealed his fourth district crown. City’s only Arena Grandmaster (AGM) registered victories in all the eight rounds to stamp his supremacy with full points – much like his father’s triumph last week.
With just one laptop at home, either son or father could play. Since Siva had no other commitments, Ramachandran had to skip the two-day event.
Continuing from where he left on Saturday, Siva was at his attacking best as the unseeded took 43 moves to turn the tables on overnight leader and second seeded Jay Sawalakhe in the fifth round. After taking sole lead, there was no looking back for Siva as he quelled the challenge of Arush Chitre, Ameya Godbole and Shraddha Bajaj with respective ease to keep his slate clean with a thumping show.
“I have nothing special to say about this tournament. I am just happy to secure the top spot,” Siva told TOI.
The NDCA will declare results after seeking anti-cheating reports from arbiters on Monday. As per the standings available on the server Siva was followed by six players at six points each. On the basis of progressive score, Aditya Bodkhe claimed silver as Suhan Deshpande finished third.
1 R Siva Subramanian (8, 42), 2 Aditya Bodkhe (6, 27.5), 3 Suhan Deshpande (6, 26.5), 4 Akshay Patil (6, 25), 5 Shraddha Bajaj (6, 23.5), 7 Kaustav Barat (6, 23.5), 7 Priyanshu Patil (6, 20), 7 Jay Sawalakhe (5.5, 29.5).
