A YOGA instructor from Glazebury is hosting free online classes to improve physical and mental health across Warrington.

Katya Greer is more than halfway through her 30-day November yoga marathon, with sessions being streamed free of charge via her YouTube channel.

In the process, the 37-year-old is hoping to raise vital funds for a worthwhile charity close to her heart – Blind Veterans UK.

As her dad is partially blind, Katya says she had a ‘deep connection’ with the charity and is encouraging those who join her to donate as little or large as they want to help those in need.

“I know how difficult the previous lockdown was for our collective physical and mental health, so I wanted to do something to help out and raise money for a great charity at the same time,” she said.

“Luckily my dad has family around to support him, but I know there are lots of blind veterans who do not, and that is why the charity is so important.

“It is especially the case at this time of year, when loneliness and isolation can be so tough for the elderly and sight impaired.”

Nicky Shaw, director of operations at Blind Veterans UK, has praised Katya for her efforts and says that any donations which can help the most vulnerable are welcomed.

He added: “Living in isolation means that blind veterans need our help right now with daily tasks, such as the shopping, and constant emotional support through this difficult time.

“We are temporarily changing our service and mobilising our staff to provide practical, essential support to help the most vulnerable.

“There is so much that we can and must do to support blind veterans to help them maintain physical and emotional wellbeing, and to feel safe, reassured and cared for during this crisis.”

Katya’s yoga sessions are broadcast live at 10am each day throughout the month of November and are on demand via youtube.com/lotusfloweryoga
