Locals to compete in FISU World University Championship Chess Tournament

Camagüey, Oct 14.- Grandmaster Carlos Daniel Albornoz and FIDE Master Jorge Elías, both from Camaguey, make up the main team that will represent our country in the FISU World University Championship Chess Tournament.

Albornoz, double champion of the island, and Jorge Elías, finalist this year of the Cuban senior championship, will be accompanied in the main Cuban squad, by Augusto Campos, Abel López, Rachel Palmero and Laritza Alfonso.

The other selection that will represent our country in the FISU World University Championship Chess Tournament will be composed of Jorge Gómez, Marlon La Villa, César Pérez, Melissa Rodríguez, Karla July Fernández and Leancy Fernández.

This chess tournament, which will be played virtually, will be held from the 26th to the 30th of this month, and in addition to the science game, it will have bridge competitions as an alternative so as not to interrupt the sequence of these appointments, organized since 1963 by the Federation International University Sports. (Luis Manuel Pantoja Roca / Radio Cadena Agramonte) (Photo: File)
