Marshall 89, FIU 72

MIAMI (AP) — Taevion Kinsey had 22 points and 12 rebounds as Marshall beat Florida International 89-72 on Saturday.

Andrew Taylor added 20 points and six rebounds for the Thundering Herd. David Early scored 14 points for Marshall (9-4, 3-3 Conference USA) and Darius George 10.

Javaunte Hawkins scored a season-high 20 points for the Panthers (8-8, 2-6), whose losing streak stretched to five games. Antonio Daye, Jr. added 18 points, eight rebounds and six assist and Dimon Carrigan grabbed 10 rebounds.

Marshall also beat Florida International 79-66 on Friday.

Ohio 85, Ball State 77

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Jason Preston had the second triple-double of his career with 11 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds to lead Ohio to an 85-77 win over Ball State on Saturday.

The game was originally scheduled to be played Friday night but was postponed due to a regional power outage in southeast Ohio.

Mark Sears had 19 points for Ohio (8-6, 4-4 Mid-American Conference). Dwight Wilson III added 18 points and eight rebounds. Lunden McDay had 17 points.

Ishmael El-Amin had 21 points for the Cardinals (6-7, 4-4). Luke Bumbalough added 11 points. Kani Acree had 10 points.

Ohio defeated Ball State 78-68 on Jan. 2.


No. 16 Glenville State 101,

West Liberty 98

WEST LIBERTY — Zakiyah Winfield, who pumped in 22 points, made two foul shots with 10 seconds left here Saturday to help No. 16 Glenville State nip host West Liberty, 101-98, in Mountain East Conference action.

Winfield made 10 of 11 from the free-throw line and tied WLU’s Olivia Belknap with a game-high 22 points.

GSC (5-1, 5-1), which returns to action 5 p.m. Wednesday at Frostburg State, also received 21 points from Re’Shawna Stone, 14 from Abby Stoller and 11 by Dazha Congleton. Jada Mitchell chipped in seven points, six boards and a game-high four steals for the Pioneers.

The Hilltoppers (2-3, 2-3), who shot 54.3% (38 of 70) from the field, couldn’t hold an 85-83 lead with 3:22 to play.

Arriana Manzay (19), Audrey Tingle (16), Grace Faulk (15) and Corinne Thomas (13) also scored double figures in the setback. Tingle dished out a baker’s dozen assists.

Otterbein 108, Marietta 75

WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The Marietta College women’s basketball team was defeated by Otterbein University, 108-75 on Saturday evening.

The Pioneers (1-1)were led by Bailee Brooks, she had 11 points, four rebounds, and notched a steal.

Erin Hahn pulled down a career and game high in rebounds with 11 in the game.

Marietta out rebounded the Cardinals 52-41, and 30-10 on the offensive glass. The 30 offensive rebounds by the Pioneers is the most in a game since Marietta pulled down 34 offensive boards against Hiram College in 2002.

Otterbein (1-1) was led by Abby Zerkle’s game-high 21 points. Angelia Jackson and Katie McCrary added 16 points each followed by 12 from Bryn Mangold.

Marietta will return to the court Friday when they travel to take on Baldwin Wallace University, with tip off scheduled for 7 p.m.
