Japanese women won the singles and doubles badminton titles at the Denmark Open on Sunday. International tournaments for the sport had been put on hold for seven months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The world’s second-ranked duo of Fukushima Yuki and Hirota Sayaka beat third-ranked Nagahara Wakana and Matsumoto Mayu, also from Japan, with a game count of two to one.
In the women’s singles, Okuhara Nozomi, ranked fourth in the world, beat Carolina Marin from Spain, the gold medalist at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016.
Okuhara came out on top without dropping a single game in the tournament. This is her first title in an international event since November 2018.
