As a result of the press conference on Tuesday evening, new measures will apply to the sports world on Wednesday evening 14 October from 10 p.m. to contain the corona virus. This also has a significant impact on badminton players in the Netherlands. Below we explain what the new measures entail and what this means in concrete terms for us.
There is virtually no restriction for the youth. Children up to and including 17 years old are allowed to play badminton, also in a team. The juniors can therefore continue to train. Only league play is not possible.
Everyone from the age of eighteen is only allowed to play sports at a distance of 1.5 meters and only individually or in a team with no more than four people. Competitions are not allowed. Badminton is not counted as a team sports, but the 1.5 meters must be maintained within the sport. This means that no doubles may be played, but a single training can be provided for the seniors with a maximum of 30 people (including youth players) in the sports hall.
The Federal Competition will be suspended for four weeks starting today. This means that at least two full rounds of play must be made up. In view of the busy schedule in the Eredivisie and Eerste Divisie, we will be talking to these clubs to look for a solution. It will be reviewed at a later time when the playing rounds are made up. More information about this will follow.
The cabinet has made an exception to the measures for top athletes in the Netherlands. The National Selections at Papendal can continue to train and play international matches. The RTC training can also continue.
