Front-running Lubbock-Cooper overcomes Abilene Cooper in volleyball


Lubbock-Cooper bounced back from an opening-set loss to beat Abilene Cooper 17-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-20 to remain unbeaten in District 4-5A volleyball play Friday at Cougar Gym.

Lubbock-Cooper (11-6 overall, 6-0 district) remains in sole possession of first place to start the second half of district play. The win gives the Lady Pirates 2-0 sweep of the district series.

Dazz Larkins had 12 kills and seven digs to lead Abilene Cooper (9-7, 3-3), which lost its second consecutive match. Jennika Willis had seven kills, eight digs and a block. Ally Morgan had 11 assists, and Jaycee Rhoads had 10. Mollie Davis had a team-high nine digs, and Bri Garcia had three of the Lady Cougars’ six blocks.

Abilene Cooper's Dazz Larkins serves the ball to Lubbock-Cooper. Lubbock-Cooper beat the Lady Coogs 3-1 in the District 4-5A match Friday at Cougar Gym.

The Lady Coogs play Lubbock Monterey (2-10, 0-5) on Tuesday in Lubbock.
