Krishnamma, a native of Chennithala, has been selling fish on a two-wheeler without bothering about her celebrity status as a national level Kabaddi player.

She was the best Kabaddi player during her school days. Krishnamma completed her schooling at Chennithala Mahatma Girls High School. She took part in 10 national competitions which were held in Jammu and Kashmir, Chattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and Punjab.

Krishnamma, who played in Sub Junior and Junior Kabaddi matches, also participated in state-level competitions including Keralotsavam after her schooling. She also served as Kabaddi coach and referee for many times.

But this sportswoman did not get any benefit from the government even after being the best Kabaddi player in Kerala.

Her husband Ashokan suffered a fracture on leg and is unable to find a livelihood. Hence, Krishnamma was forced to opt for different jobs to look after the family. She was earlier engaged in timber logging and coconut tree climbling.

After getting diagnosed with diabetes about 16 years ago, Krishnamma decided to quit from all tough jobs. As she collapses frequently, she completely stopped climbing on coconut trees.

During the floods, her house was completely destroyed. Following this, she was working as a housemaid near Chennithala Navodaya school. As the family for which she worked is moving abroad this month, Krishnamma was forced to turn a fish vendor.

Every morning, she will collects fish from Aayiramthengu and Ambalapuzha regions. After collecting the fish, she will take a ride on her scooter and sell it until 11 am.

“If somebody helps me to purchase a coconut climbing machine, I can resume coconut climbing. Still, I hope that I will get a job anywhere,” said Krishnamma.

She has son who is studying in Plus One.
