Coldwater soccer routs Harper Creek; Volleyball competes in quad

COLDWATER — The Coldwater Cardinal varsity boys soccer team turned a 2-1 halftime lead into a rout Saturday, rolling to a 6-2 win over the Harper Creek Beavers in Interstate 8 conference action.

The win improved Coldwater to 2-3 in the Interstate 8 and 3-5 overall in a shortened 2020 season.

Mukhtar Abdullah led the Coldwater effort with three goals while Mohamed Nasser added two goals and one assist.

Hashed Abdullah had the other Coldwater goal to go with two assists while Dillon Lawhead, Angel Rodriguez and Eduardo Arroyo each notched an assist.

Michael Orozo-Aburto had one save in goal for the win as Coldwater managed to out shoot Harper Creek 16-4.

Coldwater will host Pennfield for their regular season finale on Monday and then play Pennfield once again in the opening round of Districts on Wednesday.

The Coldwater JV Soccer team defeated Grand Ledge 3-2 on Saturday.

Coldwater Volleyball sees success at weekend quad

BATTLE CREEK — The Coldwater Lady Cardinal volleyball team traveled to Lakeview this past Saturday to compete in quad meet action.

The format saw each team play in three games to the score of 25 not matter the outcome.

Coldwater had a solid outing, sweeping Loy Norrix 25-17, 25-8 and 25-19; falling to Lakeview 25-21, 23-25 and 14-25; and sweeping Charlotte 25-22, 25-21, and 25-18.

Leading the Coldwater effort was Allison Miller who led the team in aces with eight while also adding 16 kills and 12 digs; Abby Herman who led the team in kills with 23 to go with six aces, six blocks and 27 digs; Laynee Paarlberg who led the team in assists with 49 and digs with 37 to go with 16 kills and five aces; Veronica Gonzalez with 19 kills and five aces; and Maddie Beckhusen with 20 digs.

The Lady Cardinals now sport a record of 9-5 with their next action coming Monday at Parma Western for more quad meet action.
