Gym classes can continue under the new rule change, so long as all participants are socially distanced throughout.

The official guidelines state: ‘Organised indoor sport or exercise classes can take place in larger numbers, provided groups of more than 6 do not mix.’

A spokesperson from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport confirmed to Huffington Post, that exercise classes can continue with more than six attendees, providing social distancing is possible.

Supervised sports activities for children are also exempt from the rule of six.

Are gyms still open?

Gyms are allowed remain open under lockdown restrictions.

The ‘rule of six’ applies to social gatherings, and gyms qualify as workplaces and businesses, so they don’t have to close or restrict visitors to six.

But while gyms can hold more than six people at a time, groups of more than six people should not visit the gym together, mix socially or form larger groups.
