Minneapolis boxers Jamal “Shango” James and David Morrell Jr. thanked the communities of Barnum and Moose Lake Tuesday as part of a COVID-friendly media event at the Circle of Discipline facility in Barnum.
James and Morrell trained at Circle of Discipline in preparation for their nationally televised Aug. 8 championship fights in Los Angeles.
James (27-1, 12 knockouts), who has become a fan favorite and big draw at the Minneapolis Armory, won the World Boxing Association interim welterweight crown with a unanimous decision over former world title challenger Thomas Dulorme.
Morrell (3-0, 2 knockouts), a native of Cuba, defeated veteran Lennox Allen to win the WBA interim super middleweight belt.
As part of Tuesday’s community celebration, the Circle of Discipline team wanted to announce plans for an afterschool youth program at the Barnum training facility, offering a safe location for young people to learn and grow while connecting with the community.
