REMUS – It’s a busy slate of volleyball games today including Big Rapids at Chippewa Hills and Central Montcalm at Reed City.
Big Rapids coach Chelsea Nelson has her team ready to go.
“We played Reed City last week and as a team, we set a few goals for that game and were able to achieve most of them,” Nelson said. “I would say that we also learned a lot. We cannot let a team determine the speed of the game- we have to be the ones to control it.
“Any lead in volleyball is never enough. As we know, momentum can change in a second.”
This week, BR will play tonight at Chippewa Hills and Wednesday at McBain Public. Wednesday will be a tri between McBain and Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart that starts at 6 p.m.
“For Tuesday’s game I am looking to implement a few more options on offense and having the girls become more comfortable with them while playing,” Nelson said. “This will put some pressure on my setters as they will have to be more vocal with running the court.”
Nelson pointed to various unique performances she’s had from players.
“Marissa Warren had a great night last week when we played Reed City,” Nelson said. “During the third set, she had a 10-foot line kill that had some heat behind it. This was so fun to watch as we have been working on finding this power.
“Tyler Brown has been working hard at practices and always looking for ways to improve. She’s vocal in the back row which is helping our defense as well as our hitters to see the open court.”
Nelson indicated statistics show her team is getting better every time they play
“As a coach, it’s fun to see the improvement and our continued successes,” she said. “As we all know, this year has been anything but normal but my girls are adjusting and adapting, and that makes me so so proud.”
